I keep one of each size in my pack’s outer zip pocket. The medium is basically my “junk drawer” for little things that have no category and may not be needed often (tick/shaving mirror, a bit of hanging line, spare carabiner, etc).
The large is for an added bit of water protection for electronics, charger, cords, etc.. keeping it all in one place and DRY. You will find a use for them and the weight is negligible.

I’ve had the medium bag for about 4 years and it’s still going strong. Recently I ordered same size & design from another mfc and tried to stuff it full like my MLD bag and the zipper kept splitting. Now I’m going to order the full set of 8.
P.S. Not that I intend to abuse my gear but my MLD Exodus pack has had over 50lbs in it on the start of a Brooks Range trek and it did great, no split or widened seams due to the extra stitching and care of reinforcements, now I use the pack for all my packrafting gear when I need to hike and try to keep pack wt under 30 lbs.
