The Squeeze Water Filteration System is a lightweight, workhorse filter for those who need long-term reliability. Sawyer Squeeze is the #1 most used filter on the trail.

Most hikers that may have started with other filters eventually end up using a Squeeze. Some filters may have a slightly higher flow rate (at first) and others lighter weight (before it quickly clogs), but none match the overall reliable performance of the Squeeze Water Filtration System on the trail. Rated to 0.1-micron absolute filtration, the Squeeze Filter removes 99.99999% of all bacteria such as salmonella, cholera, leptospirosis, and e. Coli, and removes 99. 9999% of all protozoa such as giardia and cryptosporidium (independent testing laboratory Hydration, LLC.; microbiological report S05-03). The Squeeze Filter also filters out 100% of microplastics.

The Squeeze Water Filtration System can be used as a squeeze system, fits all standard thread soda and water bottles, and is adaptable for inline and gravity filtering. Included with the filter is an ultra-light backflush coupler, which allows you to leave the backflush syringe at home. In the field, the backflush coupler can be attached to any bottle of clean water for a quick and easy flush.

Flow rates vary depending on filter cleanliness and altitude (the higher you go the slower the flow!) We recommend pre-filtering very dirty water and water with a lot of suspended particulates through a bandana or fine screen/mesh before filtering. You can also decant heavy sediment by filling a bottle or bladder with dirty water and waiting 5-15 minutes for the dirt to settle. Once the dirt has settled, pour off the clean topwater to be filtered, leaving the sediment behind. The dirtier the water, the greater need to backflush frequently, using a lot of water and strong flow.

DO NOT let water freeze in your Squeeze, or any water filter. Freezing can cause the membrane to crack and split, allowing harmful bacteria and protozoa to get into your drinking water. Always drain your filter well for long term storage and keep it above freezing on the trail by placing it in a pocket or your sleeping bag at night.
