Clean Water. Wherever You Roam.

TREATS: 100,000 gallons | 378,541 liters

The Sawyer Micro Squeeze Filter is by far one of the most popular lightweight water filters available. With a total field weight of 2 OZ, this tiny filter fits in the palm of your hand, yet it removes 99.99999% of bacteria (salmonella, cholera, and E. coli), 99.9999% of protozoa (cryptosporidium and giardia), and 100% of microplastics! Super easy to use, the Sawyer Micro Squeeze Filter can be attached to the included bladder, used with the straw to drink directly from a water source, connected to hydration pack tubing, or screwed onto almost any standard plastic bottle. The Sawyer Micro Squeeze is rated up to 100,000 gallons.

Over the last few years, Sawyer has continued to improve their small filters and hiker specific systems; the Micro being the newest filter targeted at lightweight hikers. Unlike the Mini filter, hikers report that the flow rate is far higher and the clog rate is far lower than the tiny Mini Filter. In fact, the flow rate and clog rate on the Micro are very similar to the much larger and much heavier original Squeeze model.

The Micro’s included medium-weight dirty water bag is also more robust than previous versions, making it easier to roll-down and squeeze. For longer trips and as a back-up option, we recommend adding a heavy-duty 1L bladder to your order as well. Use the included medium-duty bladder to scoop and input dirty water and use this heavy-duty bladder as a clean water carrier. Then, if your included bladder ever fails, you’re good to go with the heavy-duty back-up!

Also included with the new Micro filter, is an ultra-light backflush coupler, which allows you to leave the backflush syringe at home. In the field, the backflush coupler can be attached to any bottle of clean water, for a quick and easy flush. As this coupler is critical in the backcountry, we attach a FREE! SUPER KEEPER 1′ Reflecto Guyline lanyard on a Mini Biner so you can hook your coupler somewhere safe and KEEP IT FOUND!

Also, new to the Sawyer Micro Squeeze filter is a redesigned input gasket, which stays put and is much harder to lose (though a spare is included.)

PRO TIP: While most hikers report having very few problems with this filter, the number one problem mentioned is clog rate. Clog rate is primarily caused by filtering excessively dirty water, and infrequent and improper backflushing. We recommend pre-filtering very dirty water and water with a lot of suspended particulates through a bandana or fine screen/mesh before filtering. You can also decant heavy sediment by filling a bottle or bladder with dirty water and waiting 5-15 minutes for the dirt to settle. Once the dirt has settled, pour off the clean topwater to be filtered, leaving the sediment behind. Also, remember that the dirtier the water, the greater need to backflush frequently, using a lot of water and strong flow.

NOTE: DO NOT let water freeze in this, or any, water filter. Freezing can cause the membrane to crack and split, allowing harmful bacteria and protozoa to get into your drinking water. Always drain your filter well and/or keep it warm by placing it in a pocket or your sleeping bag at night.
